Installation Considerations for Backwashing Filters

Backwashing filters are a type of filtration equipment used in various applications such as raw material yards, sintered pellet plant water treatment, and cooling water filtration for systems like blast furnaces, rolling mills, continuous casting machines, and more. This product is characterized by its easy and economical installation, long lifespan, and high water flow capacity. So, what considerations should be taken into account during installation? Let's explore the relevant details in this article.

In general, when installing backwashing filters, attention should be paid to the following points:

1.The selection of the filter specifications should match the installation pipeline. If the filter flow cannot meet the pipeline requirements, consider installing two (or more) filters in parallel or implementing side filtration.

2.Install the filter in a location close to the system that needs protection. Since low inlet pressure affects usage, backwashing filters should also be installed near the pressure source.

3.Filters should be installed in series in the pipeline system. To ensure uninterrupted water supply during shutdown maintenance, it is recommended to set up a bypass in the system. Both the inlet and outlet of the filter and the bypass should have cutoff ball valves. Install a check valve at the filter outlet where backflow is possible.

4.When selecting the type, pay attention to ensuring that the water temperature flowing through the backwashing filter does not exceed its applicable temperature.

5.Ensure that the installation site has three-phase 380V AC power (three-phase four-wire system). The discharge pipe should not exceed 5 meters to avoid back pressure.

6.For DC systems, pay attention to filtering accuracy, pre-treatment, and pressure considerations. Exercise caution with timer-controlled systems in intermittent operation.

7.Choose the installation environment for backwashing filters reasonably, paying attention to waterproofing, rainproofing, and moisture prevention.

8.Note: In case the backwashing system is to be stopped for an extended period or seasonally, before shutting down the system, add an appropriate amount of corrosion inhibitor to the water and take measures for wet protection with a full water level to reduce corrosion and protect the system.
